Mining and Petroleum Industries taught in UMa

L'IMIP en oeuvre

Based in Kaele, some 100 km south of the town of Maroua, the Institute of Mines and Petroleum Industries (IMIP) re-opened on 9 February 2015. Its first batch comprised 250 students who succeeded in the competitive entrance examination of 7 December 2014. The establishment offers training in the domain of mines and petroleum exploration. The Institution began with 5 Departments : Mining and Quarries , Petroleum and Gas Exploration, Refining and Petro-chemistry, Industrial Security, Quality and Environment,  Petroleum and Gas Economics and Management.( For this academic year, the cycle for Design Engineers and the 3 fields of studies (Petroleum and Gas Production, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Petroleum and Gas Storage and Transportation have been set up to complete the training offered). The common core Training is lodged in the Department of Mines and Quarries. According to the officials of the institution, training at IMIP is mostly based on petroleum industries. It will at the end cover aspects relating to exploration and production (plastics, transport and storage, etc.). At the level of practice, enterprises and State institutions will be solicited with a view to improve on the training. Given the enormous demands relating to the exploitation of major mining and energy production sites that are currently operational in Cameroon, the creation of the Institute of Mines and Petroleum Industries in the University of Maroua is an adequate response made by public authorities to the need for crucial and qualified professional training. Candidates admitted with the GCE Advanced Level or Baccalaréat, undergo a three-year training following the BMD system of studies.

As concerns infrastructure, all measures have been taken by the hierarchy of the University. Students are attending classes without any problem in the various sites. The lecture halls of the Government High School Kaele put at the disposal of UMa with the collaboration of the Senior Divisional Office and the Council Office in Kaele have been refurbished. There, the activities of IMIP are being carried out hitch-free.
